In the effort to further the gunpla foot print within the realm of North American plastic modelers the goal this year for Those Gundam Guys will be a presence at as many plastic model shows and events as possible. Word of mouth has helped greatly, but getting out there meeting modelers and getting potential participants at such events is quite important. It is also important to help promote as many shows as possible since a great deal of these shows also help promote our own SGCMC event – a sign that we becoming more and more accepted as a genre of plastic modeling. 2nd Annual Southern California Gundam Model Competition (SCGMC part deux!)

Vendors at SCGMC

For the upcoming Southern California Gundam Model Competition in November, there will be vendors selling gunpla as well as gunpla related resin conversion kits. Robot4Less and TatsuHobby will be vendors at SCGMC, so all your plastic AND resin gunpla needs will be met. Additionally, there will be tools, paints, and various aftermarket items for sale at this event as well. For our friends in Northern California, TatsuHobby is also holding a contest as part of their 2 year anniversary celebration: Tatsu Hobby Anniversary Event #3 Northern CA Gunpla Competition! Anime Expo Model Contest and Bandai Gunpla Builders World Cup

I’ve talked with Clem (Gamerabaenre) who usually organizes the AX model contest, and with Steve at Bluefin, who organizes the Gunpla Builders World Cup Live Events and since I’m judging both contests I wanted to coordinate the judging and model placement since it was kind of disorganized last year. Last year more-or-less ALL models were entered and physically placed in the artist area of the exhibition hall. We judged the models Saturday afternoon for the Anime Expo contest, and then contestants had about an hour to make the mad dash with their models to set them up again at the Bluefin booth for the judging of the Bandai Gunpla Builders World Cup Contest. Anime Expo Model Contest

Anime Expo hosts a model contest within the confines of the Art Show. The competition is fairly general in that there are about 5 or so categories which include Gundam, mecha other, figure, and custom. This post will be updated with forms and more information in the next few weeks as little details are finalized with AX. The judging criteria will be the same as previous years. Build and Finish – 20 pts – This is the actual skill used in building the piece. This is visible seams, correcting of flaws in the kit, filling open areas that should be solid. Thw finish is a careful inspection of the actual painting, decals, weathering. BANDAI World Cup Competition

The Bandai World Cup competition is an international competition that is usually held at the end of the year in Hong Kong. Competitors from countries around the world compete first in their home countries, and winners from those competitions are pit against one another for the Bandai World Cup event in Hong Kong. In the United States, there are several preliminary competitions held at various anime conventions, and the final winners then compete against one another to determine the representative for the United States. IPMS Orange County: Orangecon 2011

IPMS Orange County’s annual model competition. This is a fairly large competition with anywhere between 350-450 models shown. This show is one of the first IPMS chapters to have an actual Gundam category within the Science Fiction umbrella. They also have a science fiction figures for anime figures.
